CUET explained for Class 10 students: how subject choice affects it
The exam that decides most central university admissions, and why your Class 11 subjects shape it.
What CUET is
The Common University Entrance Test is run by the NTA for central universities and many others. It has language tests, domain-subject tests and a general test. Universities decide which tests count for each programme.
Why Class 11 subjects matter
Most universities expect you to have studied the domain subject you are tested in. If you want Economics Honours at Delhi University, you need Economics and, in most cases, Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in Class 12. If you want Psychology, you need a domain test the university accepts for it.
How many subjects to keep academic
Four academic subjects give you room to choose domain tests. Two academic subjects plus three skill subjects leaves you very few options. Languages count: English is itself a CUET test.
Preparation timing
CUET follows the Class 12 NCERT syllabus closely. Students who study the boards well are preparing for CUET; a separate syllabus is not needed, but practice with the question format is.
Guidance based on the CBSE scheme of studies and public exam bulletins. Confirm rules with your school and the official sources before deciding.
