Board exams vs entrance exams: how to balance both in Class 11

They overlap more than coaching institutes admit.

The overlap

JEE, NEET, CUET and most state tests are built on the NCERT syllabus for Classes 11 and 12. Studying the boards well is most of the entrance preparation; the difference is question style and speed.

Where they differ

Entrance exams reward problem-solving speed and multiple-choice technique. Boards reward complete written answers and practicals. Plan practice for both from Class 11, but do not let coaching homework replace school work.

Eligibility

Board marks still gate admissions: 75% for NITs and IITs, 50% in PCB for NEET, 60% in Class 10 and 12 for IPMAT. Neglecting the boards can make an entrance rank useless.
