Engineering, architecture and planning at NITs, IIITs and centrally funded institutes; the gateway to JEE Advanced.

Class 12 subjects

Physics and Mathematics are compulsory in Class 12, with Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject as the third.

Eligibility

Pass Class 12 with at least five subjects. For admission to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs through JoSAA, 75% aggregate in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST) or a place in the top 20 percentile of your board is required. There is no age limit, and you can appear in the year of your Class 12 exam and the two following years.

Pattern

Computer-based test. Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech): Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, with multiple-choice and numerical-answer questions and negative marking for wrong MCQ answers. Paper 2A adds Mathematics, Aptitude and a Drawing test for B.Arch; Paper 2B has Mathematics, Aptitude and Planning questions.

What this means for Class 11

  1. Take Mathematics (041), not Applied Mathematics (241): only 041 is accepted.
  2. Physics and Maths carry the course; Chemistry is the third paper, so plan all three from Class 11.
  3. The top candidates from JEE Main qualify for JEE Advanced, the IIT entrance.
