Commercial Pilot Licence (DGCA requirements)

Not an entrance exam but a set of requirements for pilot training in India.

Class 12 subjects

Physics and Mathematics in Class 12 (students without them can clear these subjects later through NIOS, which costs time).

Eligibility

Age 17 to start training (16 for a Student Pilot Licence). Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics. DGCA Class 2 and then Class 1 medical certificates. English proficiency.

Pattern

DGCA ground examinations (Air Navigation, Aviation Meteorology, Air Regulations, Technical General and Specific, Radio Telephony) plus 200 hours of flying, after which airline selection has its own aptitude tests and simulator checks.

What this means for Class 11

  1. Book a DGCA Class 2 medical in Class 11 or 12 before spending on training; the medical is the common barrier.
  2. Training is expensive (often 40 lakh rupees or more), so compare airline cadet programmes and the Indian Air Force route through NDA.
