The first level of the Chartered Accountancy course, open to any stream after Class 12.

Class 12 subjects

Any stream, though Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics and Mathematics give a clear head start.

Eligibility

Register with ICAI after Class 10 and pass Class 12 (any stream) before appearing. Commerce graduates with 55% and other graduates with 60% can skip Foundation through the direct entry route.

Pattern

Four papers: Accounting; Business Laws; Quantitative Aptitude (maths, logical reasoning and statistics); and Business Economics. Two are objective with negative marking.

What this means for Class 11

  1. Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in Class 11 makes Quantitative Aptitude far easier.
  2. Many students register in Class 11 and sit the Foundation exam soon after Class 12.

Checked against public information bulletins. Rules change every year; the official site listed above is the final authority.
