Choosing a second language, and when not to
A second language can be scoring and enjoyable; it also uses a slot.
The rule
You may take two languages. One must be English or Hindi. You cannot take the Core and Elective versions of the same language.
When it helps
If you want a language degree, if you are strong in the language and want a scoring subject, or if your school's block leaves the slot free anyway.
When it costs
When it replaces an academic subject you need for an entrance or a CUET domain test. Two languages plus three electives leaves only three domain options.
Guidance based on the CBSE scheme of studies and public exam bulletins. Confirm rules with your school and the official sources before deciding.
